Do Car Rental Prices Vary Like Flight Prices?

Filed under: France Car Rental - 29 Mar 2010  | Spread the word !

[Facebook] [Twitter]

Many people have been seeing an increase in all aspects of travel; from flights to car rentals and even hotel reservations have all gone up in the last few months. This is a normal procession for these types of services and products because of the volume of travelers at different times of the year. However, even within the busy times, you may find that it is more expensive to travel on certain dates and even at certain times of the day. This is because many companies will adjust their prices to fit the volume of customers they’re serving.

Some of these prices will be obvious, they will often times increase on flights during mid-day as this is when the majority of travelers will be using their services. Weekends are never a good time to start or end a trip as this will generally lead to huge costs because of the limited supply of seating, cars and rooms and the overwhelming demand that these businesses endure.

When dealing with car rentals, there are a few rules to remember that will save you money in the long run. The first thing that you should always keep in mind is that when you’re renting you should rent from a facility that is generally less busy than the ones at the airport. This will help you keep the costs down and also increase your chances at getting a deal. Another important point is that the worst time you could possibly rent a car is on Friday’s and Saturday’s because of the popularity of going out of town (even just to the countryside) for the weekend. Finally, booking all of your travel needs to occur from Tuesday afternoon until Thursday morning you will be able to save money.

Car Rental Savers: Any Potential Problems?

Filed under: France Car Rental - 18 Mar 2010  | Spread the word !

[Facebook] [Twitter]

It’s a nice feeling to find a great deal on a car rental, but before you jump for joy, take a step back and be sure you really are getting a deal. Car rental companies tend to make up for fabulous prices by charging hefty fees where you least expect them. Here are some tips for avoiding excess charges.

First, make sure you use the car for exactly the contracted length of time. Pick it up and return it when you say you will. If you don’t, you may be charged penalty fees. Worse, any change to your contract could automatically bump you into a new, higher rate schedule.

Next, keep an eye out for additional gas charges. Fill the car up prior to bringing it back to the rental company and keep your receipt as proof that you did it. Some companies may try to charge you for gas anyway, assuming you won’t notice. Take a moment to really read over your final bill and to dispute any charges that seem unwarranted.

Finally, be prepared if the sales representative asks you to purchase supplemental insurance. Most of the time, you’ll find your automobile insurance covers you in rental cars. Some credit card companies will also cover damage to rental cars. Sales reps can be very persuasive, but if you know you have other coverage, decline the supplemental insurance.

If you do decline the supplemental insurance, walk around the car with the sales rep. Make sure he or she makes a note of every scratch and flaw so that you won’t be charged unfairly when you bring the car back.

Little tricks and fees of car rental companies can change your “steal” to a “bad deal.” Always know exactly what you’re being charged and why.

Made a Stop in Paris for a Great Photo Opportunity

Filed under: France Car Rental - 26 Feb 2010  | Spread the word !

[Facebook] [Twitter]

This may seem like a long winded explanation for a seemingly mundane thing that most of us take for granted. But, if you trust me now, you’ll thank me later. While you’re in Paris on your way through the Parisian countryside, there are a few things you have to do. Obviously, you’re going to want to stop off at all of the tourist attractions that keep people flocking back to France each and every year. But, what do you do when you’re done at the Eifel Tower and want something a little more memorable than a post card that you clearly paid too much for? You get a fantastic photograph of your own of the Arc De Triomphe.

If you’ve ever been to Paris and have tried to get a picture of the Arc by using conventional picture taking wisdom, you’ve probably noticed that there is nowhere along the Champs De Elysse that is suited for taking a proper picture of the monument. For the uninitiated, there are trees all along the Champs de Elysse sidewalks. And, when you make it all of the way to the end of the walking path, you’re practically right on top of the Arc de Triomphe, meaning that nowhere along your “safe” route were you able to get a view of the monument without it being obstructed by some obstacles. That’s where a little ingenuity comes in. If you’re willing to take your life into your own hands, get ready for the ultimate photo op. As cars barrel down the Champs de Elysse, there are a few pedestrian crosswalks that let people cross every few minutes. But, only about 10 or 15 make it across, as there’s not much time at all. If you’re daring enough, dart out into the middle of the street, camera ready, and snap a shot of the Arc de Triomphe as traffic is stopped. You only have one shot at this because you’ll need to dart back to safety after just one camera click. If you do it correctly, you’ll have the photo no one else does!
